AuthorHouse UK 10 Tips for Christian Writers

Have you written a Christian book, or are you interested in doing so? Whether you’ve just typed “Chapter One” or are polishing your epilogue, AuthorHouse UK would like to present ten tips to improve your skills!

  1. Read every day. Reading every day is like a daily writing class. It teaches you story structure, what works (and what doesn’t), and improves your vocabulary.
  2. Read Christian literature as much as possible. You’ll learn the conventions of the genre, as well as familiarize yourself with what’s already been done by other writers.
  3. Write every day. Create a schedule for yourself that includes writing each day, even if you have no idea what to write. Just show up at the keyboard and see what happens!
  4. Carry a notebook at all times. You never know when you’ll have an idea for a story, character, or plot element.
  5. Disconnect the internet during your writing time. It’s too easy to get distracted with email or web surfing. If you have online research to do, wait until you’re done writing.
  6. Don’t throw anything away. Do you have a character or plot idea that just didn’t work out? Save it! You never know if it will fit in a future project.
  7. Change locations. If you find yourself in a rut, try writing in a different location. Sometimes a change of scenery can stir your imagination.
  8. Get feedback. Find a trusted group of readers to read your draft, and listen to their opinions.
  9. Don’t skimp on your cover. People WILL judge your book by its cover. Make sure yours looks as professional as possible.
  10. Let some time pass before proofreading your work. You’re more likely to find errors if you approach your draft with a fresh mind.

how the 007 books became Bestsellers

AuthorHouse UK tells you how the 007 books became bestsellers

AuthorHouse UK self-publishing says we can all learn from the book editing process as we strive for bestseller status. Here are just a few things that Fleming did:- He took out the lengthy constructions and replaced them with simple words, short sentences and active verbs to keep the story moving. Even then, Fleming had his eye on his readership; wanting the book to work in the UK and North America so he split up the dialogue in order to add more verve. Next he simplified the characterization. In the original draft, Fleming had the CIA man, Felix Leiter introduce himself thus:

“My name’s Felix Leiter. Glad to meet you.” Bond’s reply was: “Mine’s Secretan.”

(the original intention was to give Bond an assumed name, “Secretan”). However realizing this might confuse the reader, Fleming deleted the assumed name and inserted:

“Bond James Bond” ; the rest is history.

AuthorHouse UK congratulates the fairer sex in winning the UK’s two biggest book awards

Having previously written about past English literary giants such as Orwell, Tolkien and Larkin, AuthorHouse UK thought it is high time that we salute one from the present day, Hilary Mantel.

AuthorHouse UK salutes 2012 Man Booker and Costa Book of the Year winning author, Hilary Mantel

AuthorHouse UK salutes 2012 Man Booker and Costa Book of the Year winning author, Hilary Mantel

Not only has she won the Man Booker twice, the first female author to do so, AuthorHouse UK is pleased to say she has just been announced as the overall winner of the 2012 Costa Book of the Year following an unanimous vote by the panel of judges.
Mantel’s win secures her a unique place in UK literary history: Bring Up the Bodies is the first book to have been both named as Costa Book of the Year and won the Man Booker Prize in the same year. Bring Up the Bodies is the sequel to her novel Wolf Hall, which won the Man Booker award in 2009 and is the second book in her Thomas Cromwell trilogy. So don’t bet against more prizes to come!

AuthorHouse UK salutes an Outstanding Winner

The Costa judging panel took less than an hour to decide that her thrilling, bloody and gripping novel was the clear winner

“It was perhaps the least surprising result in the prize’s history. The chair of judges, Dame Jenni Murray, said: “One book simply stood head and shoulders, more than head and shoulders … on stilts, above the rest. We had a really good discussion, like being at a high-powered book club, and I said, ‘OK, let’s have a vote on Bring up the Bodies’ and every hand went up.”

Dame Jenni Murray

Murray admitted it was a tricky prize to judge, as one is choosing between different genres. There are five category winners bidding to win the £30,000 main prize – that means pitting poetry against biography, first novel, children’s book and novel. That did not make it difficult, though. “I’d like to tell you there was blood on the carpet, there wasn’t. There was absolute unanimity,” Murray said.

But Murray said that was not what the prize was about – it was completely irrelevant. “These prizes are about ‘What is the best book, what is the most enjoyable book? If I were to go away from here tonight and choose a book I wanted to read again, what would it be?

“Everybody knew there was just one book we know has had lots of prizes but we couldn’t allow the number of times it has been lauded to affect our decision.”
